, both with a-ratings with the nra. to ruth's point, chris, is there a chance that republicans could help to move them as well? >> well, i think so. i think we have seen that on the fiscal cliff issue. and the feeling here at the capitol, i've put the question to them and said, if gabby giffords, a congresswoman one of your own was almost fatally shot, and congress didn't react on gun control, what has to happen after this new event? this has changed the tenor. i was talking to a democratic leadership aide to made that point and also made the point when you have harry reid, if you remember in 2010, a tough re-election. the nra king just short of stopping him saying he was a friend of the second amendment. you have joe manchin and now mark warner. those are moderate democrats. they help bring republicans on board. maybe we would see movement. >> i want to bring in congressman yarmouth. >> good morning, chris. >> yesterday, you apologized for being silent on the issue for the last six years. what specifically do you think can get done now? or do you want to see now, reinstatement of the hig

a rating of "a" with the nra. >> everything has to be on the table and i think it will be. when you look at it, if dianne is saying assault weapons, i don't know anyone in the sporting or hunting arena that goes out with an assault rifle. i don't know anybody that needs 30 rounds in a clip to go hunting. >> does that sound to you like the beginning of some sort of change? because david gregory said that they reached out to all 31 pro-gun senators, none of them would come on the program. what chance does some kind of bill have? >> well, i think both the president's signal that he would do everything in his power was pretty striking and also the fact that you heard very little until today from the gun rights lobby signals both that this is going to be a political fight but it may not be as big of a political fight as it was or would have been after some of these others. i think the fact that innocent children were involved, were the victims here, really may have opened the nation's eyes to the need for some kind of stricter controls on, you know, on like the assault weapons ban. but what y

's been incredibly vocal. in fact, he started a super pac. he thinks he can take on the nra, doesn't he? >> exactly. this election cycle, he launched his very own super pac which is about protecting new york city, keeping guns out of the city, but it's also very much about the mayor's future after city hall. he ends in 2013. >> as in a presidential run? or just a player? >> no, i think he's past running for president himself, but he does very much want to play a hand in national politics. he beat a favorite of the nra, a california democratic congressman, and it was a demonstration of what he thinks he can do going forward to influence gun policy on a national level. >> somebody who just might run for president of the united states is your number 19, because our governor isn't afraid to talk about global warming. for a democrat, you write affirming global warming isn't exactly a profile in courage, but it was brave considering the political spotlight was on him during hurricane sandy. of course we're talking about governor cuomo. the second governor cuomo. >> no shortage of elected offi
